Title
Early Anglo-Saxon iron spear
Description
English: An Early Anglo-Saxon iron spear, dating circa 550-650. The spear has a lozenge shaped tapering blade with an incomplete conical shaft. The shaft is not fully rounded. The blade expands diagonally outwards from the socket to form the widest point of the blade. The blade then appears to taper inwards again, giving the blade an overal diamond shape. The top half of the blade is missing.

The spear measures 160mm in length. The blade measures 28mm in width at the widest point. The socket measures 13mm in diameter at the break.

An attempt was made to classify and date this weapon using the system defined in Bayliss and Hines (2013, 163-170) but the spear is too incomplete to define it with any confidence.
